Jubin Nautiyal: COVID-induced lockdowns taught us that we all need to be there for each other

The Dil Galti Kar Baitha Hai singer shares that he got the time to create music in Uttarakhand during the lockdown

A hobby that you picked up amid the lockdown?

I was dabbled with making my own tunes during that time.

Any project that you started working on and finished amid the lockdown?

I worked on quite a few songs during the lockdown, like Raataan Lambiyan and a few of my singles, which got released last year.

A quote that defined that period for you

‘Life will knock you down 99 times, but you have to get back up and move ahead in the right direction’. It’s a simple, yet a very apt quote.

What did that period teach you?

Many things, but one important lesson that we all have been neglecting or overlooking due to our busy schedules is the importance of health and taking care of ourselves and one another. We tend to overlook it with our fast-paced lives, but this situation taught us that lesson once again. It also taught us that we need to be there for each other. Another thing that we all have learnt is to work remotely from anywhere.

One thing that you missed doing the most in the lockdown?

I missed travelling, and I missed my work. But mostly, I missed performing live in gigs. I love live performances as they connect me directly to my fans, their cheers, singing along with them, their love for me, the divinity of vibes and energy flow I feel when I’m on stage, I missed all of it majorly. But I tried my best to connect to my fans through the garden and rooftop digital concerts I had in the lockdown.

One thing that you miss now about the lockdown?

I miss sitting in my room with my instruments for hours, experimenting and creating new tunes. With life getting back to normal, lots of travelling, offline shows and events are happening, and so, the time for experimentation has reduced. I also miss the quietness of the mountains, having a scenic view of the mountains from my window and playing different tunes. I miss all of it.
